Strange simulation today...

So, today's METI simulation was strange. Our patient (the METI dummy) was a pregnant woman who had been in a car accident at 22 weeks, had just done cocaine, and who was bleeding. As we were trying to save her, her lesbian partner (played by an instructor with lots of costume get-up) busts in and starts freaking out. Me and my friend Ashley move in to help calm her down (the other students were working with the "patient") and she is just hysterical. Then, the mom of the patient (played by another teacher) comes in and starts freaking out.

I stayed with the mom, calmed her down, and pulled her away from the patient so they could get labs. Then the two woman start fighting with each other. Me and Ashley had to pull them apart and talk to them seperately. It was crazy. This simulation went on about 30 min. or shorter, but it felt like forever.

When it was over the instructors said our group did so well! We calmed down the partner and the mom and were supportive, but firm. It was a lot of fun, but SO funny seeing the faculty like that. I think they were the ones having fun, they got to be actors for the day.

That is strange. I'm sure its something that could happen, but wow. I bet the teachers did have a fun time being extreme, plus they've probably seen crazy things like this! Especially in the late night hours! I've heard all kinds of crazy stories from friends of mine that worked ER and Trauma ER!
